About Benjamin Falk

I am a software engineer and technical product owner based in Vienna, Austria. For over ten years, I have built software; in recent years, I have also taken responsibility for what gets built. The problems I find most interesting sit where those two jobs meet.

Much of my career has been spent in complex, highly regulated domains: German fiscalisation, banking, and now the workflows of dental laboratories. They have in common that the complexity cannot be simplified away, because the law or the work itself says otherwise. I have come to like that constraint.

What I am doing now

I am a technical co-founder of BenAndBros, a pre-incorporation venture building LabCrafty, a LIMS/ERP platform for dental laboratories, with two co-founders. We have taken it from an initial prototype to a product now in use with pilot customers. I lead the technical direction of the platform, from architecture and development to technical decisions and its long-term evolution. It is an early-stage, part-time commitment alongside my primary professional focus.

I am open to a primary full-time role in software engineering, product management, or product ownership, and to selected part-time collaborations with a clear scope.

What I did before

Technical Product Owner and Senior Software Engineer, fiskaly GmbH (2022 to 2026). I owned the product vision, roadmap, and technical development of fiskaly’s fiscal reporting system. A large part of the role was translating complex fiscal requirements into product requirements, data models, and export pipelines, while working across engineering, tax experts, and other stakeholders.

One of the projects I am most proud of was the re-architecture of the DSFinV-K export system, where a new data model and a partial rewrite brought export runtimes down from days to seconds.

Senior Software Engineer, fiskaly GmbH (2019 to 2022). Full stack work on fiscalisation systems, across both frontend and backend, with a focus on reliability and durable architecture.

Senior Software Engineer, kalbeck ventures GmbH (2016 to 2019). I built a banking interface with TypeScript, React, and GraphQL, and established the frontend architecture behind it.

Before that I worked in frontend and web development in Vienna, Zurich, and Salzburg from 2010.

How I work

I care about software that remains understandable and maintainable as it grows: architecture a team can still reason about in three years, and code that makes the domain legible instead of hiding it. I would rather spend a week getting the data model right than a year working around it.

On the product side, I believe the best requirements come from understanding how people actually work, rather than from simply reading a backlog. At fiskaly and at LabCrafty alike, the features that turned out to matter came from sitting with the people who would use them.
